The government grant scheme only helps those inefficient homes that need a whole heating system upgrade. First time central heating grant covers the whole central heating installation cost to achieve the potential energy efficient level as mentioned in your EPC certificate.
Which Heating System Can Get Grants?
To replace your current heating system, it needs to be decentralised, meaning it’s not connected to radiators. The following types of heating systems can usually be replaced under the central heating grants in the UK:
- Non-centralized heating: Older systems that don’t use radiators.
- Storage heaters: Traditional systems that store heat.
- Electric heaters or fan heaters: Old electric heating systems.
- Solid fuel systems: Heating systems that use coal or wood.
- Wood/biomass room heaters: These produce a lot of carbon dioxide.
- Oil/LPG room heaters: Expensive to run.
- Gas-fired back boilers: Old and inefficient systems.
- Electric underfloor or ceiling heaters: Without an electric boiler.
